EXCLUSIVE: Karan Johar says few film industry people were being negative towards Brahmastra: “Sometimes people push critical to being negative”

Karan Johar said that there were people in the film industry who were being negative towards Brahmastra.

Brahmastra starring Ranbir Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, and Alia Bhatt released in the theatres on September 9. The film helmed by Ayan Mukerji received mixed responses amongst critics and audiences but it has also received praise for its attempt in making a fantasy mythology modern drama and being a visual spectacle. However, the filmmaker Karan Johar, who is the producer of the movie, said that there were people in the film industry who were being negative towards Brahmastra.

In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Karan Johar said that it is never a good thing to celebrate when a film fails at the box office. “While I have no problems with everyone’s opinions, I sometimes feel sad, because within the industry we have some types of people, who are working for the industry and are with the industry for years… you can be critical but being negative is not nice. Critical we will accept with open arms, it is very imperative, everyone needs that policing. But I feel sometimes, some people push that from being critical to being negative. Sometimes I feel we are all part of the same industry, so don’t you want this film to work… Sometimes people within the industry, who call themselves members of the media also, celebrate the ruination of a film. I feel that is never a good thing.”

On the professional front, Karan Johar’s next directorial is Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. The film stars Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi. The film is slated for 2023 release. The filmmaker is also planning to direct an action entertainer with hopes to kick off the shoot in April 2023.
