Exclusive: KGF – Chapter 2 [Hindi] surpasses KGF – Chapter 1 [Hindi] lifetime in one day, will power its way into 300 Crore Club, could challenge even Baahubali – The Conclusion lifetime

en Bollywood News Exclusive: KGF – Chapter 2 [Hindi] surpasses KGF – Chapter 1 [Hindi] lifetime in one day, will power its way into 300 Crore Club, could challenge even Baahubali – The Conclusion lifetime

Back in 2018 when KGF - Chapter 1 [Hindi] had released, no one was giving it any chance whatsoever. The film had released in competition with Shah Rukh Khan's Zero, a much hyped biggie, which was touted to benefit the most in the Christmas week. As it turned out though, Zero did start at Rs. 20.14 crores (a barely average number by its high standards) and then folded up at Rs. 90.28 crores lifetime to emerge as a disaster, and in the process the last Shah Rukh Khan starrer for over three years now.

Meanwhile, KGF - Chapter 1 [Hindi] grew from strength to strength, and how. The dubbed version of the Kannada film opened at Rs. 2.10 crores and went on to collect more than 20 times its first day by closing at Rs. 44.09 crores. No, the Yash starrer wasn't a hit or anything, but it did set itself for a big stage entry. The film had anyways been doing quite well in Kannada so the Hindi version backed by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani was an added bonus. However, director Prashanth Neel had tasted blood. He now set up KGF - Chapter 2 to be bigger and better.

This is exactly what has happened now, what with the Hindi dubbed version of the film seeing an out of the world opening, and in the process surpassing the entire lifetime collections of the first part in a matter of one single day. With Rs. 53.95 crores coming in, the film has gone way ahead of Rs. 44.09 crores and is only going to multiply further in days and weeks to come.

Wait, there is more. It's not just that the film is competing with itself; it is now competing with the entire world of Hindi releases ever. So far, the record was held by War which collected Rs. 51.60 crores on its opening day back in October 2019. Prior to that Aamir Khan's Thugs of Hindostan was the only other film to have scored a half century on its first day when it collected Rs. 50.75 crores on its 2018 Diwali release. The record of both these films has been upstaged by KGF - Chapter 2 [Hindi] and is proudly wearing the crown for the biggest opening day ever.

When something like this had happened with Baahubali 2 - The Conclusion [Hindi] then it was seen as an aberration. Yes, it had collected Rs. 41 crores on its opening day and while it was simply amazing, it was attributed a lot to the fact that Baahubali: The Beginning [Hindi] was a Rs. 100 Crore Club blockbuster too and the world wanted to know that 'Katappa Ne Baahubali Ko Kyon Maara?'. It then went on to enter the Rs. 500 Crore Club by earning a lifetime of Rs. 511 crores, hence beating Dangal, which enjoyed the highest lifetime ever for a Hindi film [Rs. 387.38 crores].

However, now that KGF - Chapter 2 [Hindi] has opened so huge, one wonders that whether it is about time that Baahubali 2 - The Conclusion [Hindi] lifetime record is in danger as well. Too early to say, yes, but not something which is not possible. After all, till just earlier this week no one would have imagined that the film had in it to score the record for the biggest first day ever but it has happened after all. There are other south films too which are working hugely, as seen in RRR [Hindi] which has gone past the Rs. 240 crores mark and would end at Rs. 250 crores.

Not that all south films are being lapped up with glee. Vijay is one such actor who is not enjoying any luck whatsoever when it comes to reception of his Hindi dubbed films by pan-India audiences. Last year, his Master was a huge disaster as its Hindi version folded up at a measly Rs. 5 crores. Now Raw, the dubbed version of Beast, will do even poorly with lifetime not expected to be more than Rs. 3 crores. Earlier this year, Valimai [Hindi] suffered the same fate when it crashed at a Rs. 2 crores lifetime. Radhe Shyam [Hindi] too was a disaster at Rs. 19 crores.

That said, in the world of hits and misses, it's KGF - Chapter 2 [Hindi] which has been a big hit as far as the first day is concerned where it has created mayhem. If the advance booking for the rest of the week is any indication, the film will comfortably enter the Rs. 200 Crore Club in quick time and has a real shot at going past the Rs. 300 crores mark. Will it challenge Baahubali 2 - The Conclusion too? Well, that possibility can't be ruled out either.
