We all remember him as the adorable Samar from the highest TRP-rated show Anupamaa. Paras Kalnawat, who played a dancer in this show, confessed to Bollywood Hungama that he is not a professional dancer. However, the actor was quick to add that not only does have an immense passion for dancing but it has also been a childhood dream for him to participate in a dance reality show. He is extremely thrilled about this opportunity and revealed what he is looking forward to in this dance reality show.
Expressing his gratitude towards this dance opportunity that came his way, Paras Kalnawat told Bollywood Hungama, “It means a lot to me. Actually, this is something that I've been dreaming of since childhood. Yeh ek aisi journey hai ki harr kisi ke bucket list mein hota hai zaroor ki aise grand and beautiful show ka hissa banna rehta hai aur Jhalak paanch saal baad aa raha hai. (This is one journey that might be there on everybody’s bucket list. Also, who wouldn’t want to be a part of such a grand and beautiful show? And Jhalak is coming after a five-year hiatus.) So, it means everything to me.”
Speaking about his passion for the art, he shared, “Dance is passion. I always wanted to be a better dancer but opportunity mili nahi kabhi aur waqt nahi mila. Acting mein itne busy the ki woh mauka hi nahi mila. Par yeh ek right mauka right time pe aaya hai aur main isse haath se jaane nahi doonga. (I never got any opportunities or even the time. I got busy with acting. But this was the right opportunity at the right time. I wouldn’t have ever let go of this.),” he asserted.
He also revealed that despite sharing a passion for it, he has not learned it professionally. “Main bilkul professional dancer nahi hoon. So agar professional dancer ki baat ki jaaye toh mere liye sab kuch naya hai. (I am not a professional dancer. So if you talk about being one, then everything is new for me) From performing on stage to being in front of the judges to performing against my competitors, everything is new for me,” he added.
When asked about the pre-dancing jitters, he mentioned, “I'm nervous but I feel confident kyunki nervousness toh rahegi unke saamne perform karne ke liye, lekin agar woh confidence nahi raha toh kahin na kahin mera performance niche jayega so I feel confidence hi hai jo meri nervousness ko overcome karega. (Nervousness is obviously there because I have to perform in front of the judges but if I don’t have enough confidence, it will affect my performance. So I need to have the confidence to overcome my nervousness.)”
The actor also revealed that among the songs he wants to perform, judge Nora Fatehi’s ‘Kamariya’ from Stree, judge Madhuri Dixit’s ‘Ghagra’ from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and judge Karan Johar’s, ‘Kukkad Kamaal Da’ from Student of the Year is on his list.
Speaking further about judges’ comments, Paras shared, “Mere liye saare judges ke comments bahut matter karte hain but as a complete filmmaker, Karan sir ka jo review hai woh bahut matter karta hai (For me, the comments of all judges matter but Karan Johar will judge me as a complete filmmaker, so his comments matter the most) Because he knows everything. He'll observe my expressions, my body language, and also my dance performance. So everything matters and agar unke taraf se tareef aati hai toh (if I get appreciation from him) that's going to be the best day of my life.”
Having a bond with the choreographer on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa is equally important for the contestants. “Unke saath sab kuch achha aur comfortable ho gaya tha (All was good and comfortable) right after we were introduced. So first day ke baad hi dheere dheere we broke the ice, hum logon ne baat karna chaalu kiya (we started talking), and then we become very, very good friends. Ab toh masti mazaak bhi chalti hai performance ke beech-beech mein (Now we also have loads of fun in-between performances too). So I feel very, very lucky that she is my partner. Shweta Sharda is my choreographer, my partner in the show because she is a great performer and now she is a great friend as well,” he concluded.
