Flashback Friday: When Sunny Deol opened up about ‘new girl’ Sridevi and threatened to HIT any reporter misreporting his AFFAIR with Amrita Singh (watch video)

Sunny Deol made a smashing comeback with Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se alongside dad Dharmendra and brother Bobby Deol and we happen to unearth an old video Sunny Paaji when he was fresh in the industry after his debut. Naïve, raw and totally raring to go Sunny is anything but diplomatic in this rare clip. He opened up about a lot of things including pressures of being a star kid (before the term became trendy in the industry), his work and of course his much publicised affair with Amrita Singh. The interview took place in Vancouver on the sets of Joshilaay which starred Anil Kapoor and Sridevi in it. By then, Sunny was already an established name and Sridevi was just another ‘South siren’ who had come to Bollywood to try her luck. Little did anyone know she would be the industry’s first female superstar.

Sunny dishes details on his private life...

Sunny first started off by talking about his film Joshilaay. It is interesting how he describes the film as a ‘Sholay type action type film’. The reporter asked him about the cast of the film and he said, “Ladki toh Sridevi hai and ek aur ladka hai Anil Kapoor.” It is amusing how he introduces them! Well, the reporter prods him about the ‘nayi ladki from South’ and he says that, “Uski Jeetu (Jeetendra) he saath bahot pictures chal rahi hai aaj kal,” with a mischievous grin. For the uninitiated, the Sridevi-Jeetendra link up garnered a lot of publicity and led to a lot of speculations amongst the film circuit. He was further asked about his link up with Amrita Singh. To which the already committed Sunny dismissed it as mere ‘afvayein’ or rumours. The relentless reporter did not give up and pushed him further talking about this. He said that his fiancé did not get affected by the supposed rumours but if the reporters keep publishing then he would hit them if he meets them. In his words, “Koi mila toh mujhe toh pakad ke maar denge aur kya.’

For those who don’t know, Sunny and Amrita had an affair alright and according to the industry sources, they broke up after Amrita got to know that Sunny is secretly married to his girlfriend in London. She later commented after Sunny started dating Dimple Kapadia that the later ‘has her man where she wants him’. Check out this interview below.
