South Korean group GOT7, with JAY B, Mark, Jackson, Jinyoung, Youngjae, BamBam and Yugyeom, made a stunning comeback as a group with their self-titled EP GOT7. After the group’s departure from its previous agency, JYP Entertainment, the members went on to build a solo career for themselves. TRUTH
Written by JAY B, the song is a crisp mix of R&B and rap. With ‘Truth’, the septet questions the truth in a romantic relationship. The laid-back tone induces a hazy mood, like when a person is distraught with overwhelming emotions – “Why did you call me baby? / What are you doing? / Why did I suddenly get hungry?”
DRIVE ME TO THE MOON
‘Drive Me To The Moon’ is an upbeat song. Written by Youngjae, the song is full of ecstasy and happiness. The members match the synth-techno beats as they croon about driving away to the moon – “I’m falling into you at this moment / You and I under the moonlight / Everything you dance to is perfect.”
NANANA
Accompanied by a vibrant music video 'NANANA', the song is written and produced by group's leader JAY B. The title track is a message from GOT7 to their fans. The bright and energetic track celebrates their return to their fans (IGOT7) as they croon, "By your side, na-na-na / Someone who wants to make you laugh, na-na-na /It feels good, na-na-na / I wonder about everything." The pastel tones of the video along with visual effects and feel-good relaxed vibe makes it a summery affair. The music video serves as a good reminder to the GOT7 magic as the members come together and dance to the tunes of NANANA.
TWO
Penned by Yugyeom, the group’s youngest member, the song is soft trap number. The mellifluous voices of the members create a soothing reverie in this track. The love and its varying emotions are reflected beautifully in the song.
DON’T CARE ABOUT ME
After a haze inducing ‘TWO’, GOT7 switch to a crisper tone with ‘Don’t Care About Me’. Co-written by Jinyoung and Yugyeom, the synth and bass beats create an atmosphere that engulfs the listener in the musical charm. The song is about heartbreak, and the elevated music brings out the emotions artistically – “It’s been a long road / Been through up and downs / But we’re still here / Still alive”.
DON’T LEAVE ME ALONE
After a rollercoaster of emotions with love and heartbreak, ‘Don’t Leave Me Alone’ paints a wretched picture with lyrics – “Don't leave me alone, understand me / As long as you love me, hold me tight / Don't leave me alone, protect me.” The group turns to bass beats and atmospheric tones as they urge to not leave them alone.
With over a year of wait for the full group comeback, GOT7 did not disappoint. They stood firm on their promise and delivered a stellar album for their fans.
