Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor’s wife Mira Rajput recently shared her thoughts on the global blockbuster Barbie, directed by Greta Gerwig, expressing her views about one particular aspect of the film on her Instagram stories. Despite the movie's immense success, it appears that Mira Rajput had reservations about the portrayal of song-and-dance sequences in Hollywood compared to Bollywood.
Mira Rajput shared a still from the film, showcasing Barbie and Ken at a lavish party surrounded by other dolls, set to the tune of Dua Lipa's hit song 'Dance the Night.' In her post, she quipped, "Hollywood this... Hollywood that. Well, Hollywood can't do song-and-dance like Bollywood can."
For the unversed, directed by the talented Greta Gerwig, Barbie achieved remarkable success. As per a report by Variety, the film grossed an astounding USD 155 million in its opening weekend. Notably, this outstanding figure marked the highest-ever debut for a film directed by a woman, solidifying Gerwig's position as a trailblazing filmmaker.
The ensemble cast is packed with stellar names, featuring talented artists like Issa Rae, Dua Lipa, Simu Liu, Michael Cera, Helen Mirren, John Cena, and Will Ferrell, adding further star power to the movie. Barbie brings to life the story of the beloved dolls Barbie and Ken, who venture out of the fantastical realm of Barbie Land in search of self-discovery and meaning in the real world.
