Jinkies! Velma comes out as a Lesbian in new ‘Trick or Treat’ Scooby-Doo film; watch

In the new movie, Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo! Velma Dinkley develops a crush on another female character named Coco Diablo.

The Scooby-Doo cartoon character Velma is now identified as a lesbian. In clips from the newest Scooby-Doo film, Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo!, the googly-eyed character is rendered speechless after she meets a female character. The video is going viral on Twitter, confirming the long-held suspicions of the “Scooby” fandom.

Talking about the clip from a new Halloween special, Velma finds herself encountering a famous costume designer, Coco Diablo. For the unversed, Coco is responsible for a number of the villains the gang have unmasked. In the viral video, instead of her usual self-confident composure, Velma is suddenly speechless while ticking off a list of admirable qualities, such as “obviously brilliant” and “loves animals!”

Earlier, in 2020, the filmmaker James Gunn revealed he had attempted to make the fan-favourite character gay but was eventually shot down. Meanwhile, during Pride month in 2020, Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated producer Tony Cervone seemingly confirmed Velma's sexuality in an Instagram post.

In the post, Velma was seen standing in front of a rainbow background along with Marcie. In the caption, Tony wrote, “I obviously don't represent every version of Velma Dinkley, but I am one of the key people that represent this one. We made our intentions as clear as we could ten years ago. Most of our fans got it. To those that didn't, I suggest you look closer. There's no new news here.”

Coming back to Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo, the animated film is written by Daniel McClellan, Laura Pollack and Audie Harrison.
