Filmmaker Karan Johar has said that he understands why people hate him, but he urges them to give him the benefit of the doubt. In an interview with Film Companion, Johar said that he can be "annoying" to people who don't know him as a person.
KJo said that he is aware of the fact that he is "pouting and preening at age 50 into a camera", "wearing shiny clothes and walking the red carpet", and "coming across as catty on a chat show".
However, Johar said that he is also "emotionally fragile" and has suffered loss and heartbreak in his life. He said that he is just like anyone else, and he hopes that people will give him a chance.
"To the haters, I just have to say that just give me the benefit of doubt," Johar said. "Just know that I'm as vulnerable as you are. I'm as emotionally fragile as you are. My heart has been broken in love many a time. I'm a single parent which is a tough job. I did lose my father at a young age. I work very hard still, and I really seek validation. So, I'm just like anybody else."
Johar is currently basking in the success of his latest directorial, Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani. The film is headlined by Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi, Jaya Bachchan, Churni Ganguly and Tota Roy Choudhary, among others. The filmmaker is currently at the Toronto International Film Festival for the premiere of KILL, a film produced by his banner Dharma Productions.
