Along with its share of theatrical blockbusters, 2023 also saw some OTT movies that received acclaim and appreciation. Sujoy Ghosh’s Jaane Jaan was one such film. Starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Jaideep Ahlawat and Vijay Varma, the Netflix movie was a thriller that revolved around a murder.

Sharing her reaction to the response for Jaane Jaan, Kareena told Forbes in a video interview, “I am super excited. I think it was so nice to see that everybody kind of watched it all over. The fact that so many people were streaming it and watching it across so many different countries, messaging me. I am so happy and thrilled that everybody actually took out the time and watched it.”

Kareena believes that making content on OTT has more challenges that theatrical films because one has to rely mostly on the story. “I think it’s so important, especially, on streaming platforms, I think, the content is king,” she said. “Content is what everybody streams more than the stars. You want something engaging and interesting. I think, in fact, it’s more difficult to be on OTT platform than in cinema.”

Elaborating further, the actress added, “Cinema is more fun and (there are) songs and dance and (they are) action-packed. But when you are watching it at home on an OTT platform, you need a story. You want to kind of be not distracted. Because you have the ability to be distracted. There’s phone and other things and what all is happening; you are watching it in your home. So you need something to pull you in.”

Kareena believes Jaane Jaan ticked all the boxes of a content-oriented OTT movie. “It had fabulous performances, but I think it had a story that held its own. It sucked people into a world and that’s what was required. That was a conscious effort,” she said.

This year, Kareena will next be seen in The Buckingham Murders and The Crew.
