Vivek Agnihotri's directorial The Kashmir Files had released on March 11 on limited screens across India. The film which was made on a small budget did not have massive promotions as well. However, the positive word-of-mouth publicity of the film attracted the audience to watch the film in theatres. Within a week of its release, the screen count for the film also increased by 8 times. The film that narrates the story of the exodus of the Kashmiri Pandits during the Kashmir Insurgency stars Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Darshan Kumaar, Pallavi Joshi, among others.
Pallavi Joshi plays the role of professor Radhika Menon who believes in the 'Kashmir Cause'. The actor who is also the wife of director Vivek Agnihotri has been a part of the project since day 1. At a recent press conference in Delhi marking the success of the film, Vivek and Pallavi spoke about the film. Vivek revealed that Pallavi researched for the film for four years and interviewed several people. Talking about her experience of interviewing families of the victims of the exodus, Pallavi said, “When we went for our first interview we knew that the subject's father was murdered but did not know how it happened. When we went there, they welcomed us with happiness and great hospitality. When we sat down for the interview they spoke about everything, right from their happy childhood to the tragic incident. Talking about their father's death, she (the daughter) said that he was shot dead and was chopped into 50 pieces and stuffed in a sack, and thrown away. When the sack surfaced after 2-3 days, they identified the body with a piece of ID card on the body."
Talking further, she said, “In another interview, a lady told me that her father was shot all over the body and the police took his body or post mortem. When the body was returned there were gunshot wounds all over and because of the postmortem, stitches were not done properly and his organs could be seen. She was crying profusely and said that she had to bathe her father for his funeral and that is when she saw the organs.”
"Every day we would listen to 3-4 such stories and it left me speechless. I was unable to go on with the interviews and at one point I was almost ready to walk away. I could not bear to listen to the stories but several families were still living the memories of the genocide without getting any closure as no one has been punished to date," she added.
