Dharma Productions is back with a brand new comedy film titled Bad Newz. Vicky Kaushal will be sharing the screen with Triptii Dimri and Ammy Virk. The upcoming Bollywood flick will delve into the rare phenomenon of heteropaternal superfecundation, where twins are conceived from different fathers. Interestingly, another such story has made its way to the streaming service Netflix – a Brazilian drama called Desperate Lies.
Desperate Lies aka Pedaço de Mim dropped on Netflix on July 5, 2024, and the 17-episode intense drama deals with the same medical condition. Directed by Maurício Farias, Desperate Lies centers around Liana (Juliana Paes), a woman who discovers her husband Tomás's (Vladimir Brichta) infidelity. This devastating revelation shatters her world, leading her to leave Tomás. Seeking solace with friends, Liana ventures out for a night on the town. However, the evening takes a horrifying turn as she becomes the victim of drugging. The consequences of this incident become clear when Liana learns she's pregnant – with twins.
Here's where Desperate Lies takes a truly unexpected turn. Liana’s doctor reveals she has a rare medical condition called heteropaternal superfecundation. In simpler terms, each of her twins has a different biological father. This phenomenon, while documented in medical journals, is extremely uncommon. For Liana, the news is a bombshell. Not only must she grapple with the emotional fallout of her husband's betrayal, but she now faces the daunting prospect of motherhood under these extraordinary circumstances.
Desperate Lies delves into the emotional turmoil Liana experiences. Torn between anger at Tomás, confusion surrounding the identity of the other father, and the joy (and fear) of impending motherhood, she embarks on a complex journey of self-discovery.
Interestingly, the premise of Desperate Lies bears a resemblance to the upcoming film Bad Newz. Starring Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri, and Ammy Virk, the film also revolves around a woman who discovers she's pregnant with twins, with different fathers played by Kaushal and Virk. However, unlike Desperate Lies, Bad Newz is taking comedic approach to the situation with the protagonist wanting to understand who will become a better father.
The film is helmed by Anand Tiwari. Bad Newz is slated to hit the theatres on July 19, 2024.
