Priya Bapat on playing politician Poornima Gaikwad in City Of Dreams, “I took inspiration from sportspersons”

Priya Bapat is all set to return to her character Poornima Gaikwad in City of Dreams Season 3 on Disney+ Hotstar

Director Nagesh Kukunoor’s Disney+ Hotstar web show City Of Dreams is all set to return with a third season from May 26 onwards. The show mirrored a fictitious tale of the murky politics in Maharashtra in its first two seasons and is all set to continue the same in the third one. The show largely portrays the journey of Poornima Gaikwad from a daughter of a famous politician Amey Rao Gaikwad (Atul Kulkarni) to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Her character has been effortlessly portrayed by Priya Bapat.

Like every actor playing a challenging role, Priya too did her preparations while playing Poornima. Sharing her way of preparations, she said exclusively, “I researched (on) how politicians stand. There are a lot of YouTube videos that you see about body language and the mannerisms and their body postures. So, I did a lot of homework and research around that.”

Interestingly, Priya took inspiration to play a politician from people in a different field altogether. Explaining the same, she added, “Poornima Gaikwad is a completely different personality, and she doesn’t resemble anybody in politics. She is truly original, so I did not take any inspiration from any real-life politician. I take a lot of inspiration from sportspersons but nothing from politics.”

For the unversed, Priya is one of the biggest stars in Marathi cinema where she has been giving quality performances since more than a decade. She is married to fellow actor Umesh Kamat.

City Of Dreams also stars Sachin Pilgaonkar, Sushant Singh, Eijaz Khan and Rannvijay Singha in pivotal roles.
