While Bollywood is remaking classics and probably receiving flak for it, an iPhone ad seems to have grabbed the attention of netizens of late for a similar reason. The said iPhone commercial promoting face recognition is devoid of dialogues and only features a music piece. And this is what has become the topic of discussion on social media. While the ad credited Pete Cannon for its music [for his song ‘Bang Bang’], it soon sent Indians in a tizzy. The social media addicts decided to clarify on it adding that it was an R D Burman piece.
Considering the current trend of plagiarism, audiences around the globe are well-versed with the idea of plagiarizing music. So when Indians realized that an iPhone commercial has blatantly credited only Pete Cannon for the film, they decided to make some clarifications there. A series of tweets started trending on social media with Indians expressing their anger over this ‘plagiarism’ dilemma. Some of them even went on to share the original piece that inspired the Pete Cannon song ‘Bang Bang’ in the first place.
Dear @petecannonbeats The original piece is by Indian composer #RDBurman aka #Pancham for a film called The Burning Train (way back in 1980).. @Apple #IPhoneX Ad

R D Burman aka Pancham Da created this music for a song titled ‘Meri Nazar Hai Tujhpe’ for the film The Burning Train. It was picturized on Hema Malini and Parveen Babi. On the other hand, aware of the furor the iPhone caused on social media, Pete Cannon decided to put forth his side of the story. He took to the same platform to shut his haters by adding that he already taken required permissions to use this R D Burman music in his song.
Hi Guys, I just want to address the sample used in the new Apple iPhoneX advert. It samples a track from the great R D Burman's 'Burning Train’ and it's a MAGICAL piece of music! It was cleared/licensed via Blurred Recs courtesy of Saregama. Everyone is on board and loves it. ;)

Amidst all of it, we are sure Indian iPhone lovers are beaming with pride. After all, a combination of the Steve Jobs creation and Pancham Da was least expected!
