Animal director Sandeep Reddy Vanga opened up about his experiences in the film industry, shedding light on the challenges faced by outsiders like himself. In a candid interview with Dainik Bhaskar, Vanga expressed his views on the industry's dynamics, award shows, and the pervasive issue of nepotism.
Animal, featuring a stellar cast including Ranbir Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, and Anil Kapoor, garnered significant attention upon its theatrical release last month, with 19 nominations at the upcoming Filmfare awards.
Vanga highlighted the industry's hostility towards outsiders, describing it as 'animal-like behaviour.' Despite his immense success, the director acknowledged the challenges of breaking into an industry that often favours its own. "It's literally like animal behaviour; you rebel against anybody who threatens to enter your territory," he remarked.
The director expressed reservations about airing his grievances too openly, stating, "I don't want to sound like I'm complaining too much." However, he didn't shy away from addressing the issue of nepotism, particularly in the context of awards shows. Vanga observed, "Look at awards shows. They promote their own friends. Everybody knows what awards shows are like."
When questioned about his experiences with industry hostility, Vanga said, "It happens. I can keep going till tomorrow if I decide to tell you what I've gone through in the last four years with Kabir Singh and Animal. But I don't want to cry like a baby."
Speaking of Animal, despite a successful theatrical run with over Rs. 800 crores worldwide, the movie is currently navigating challenges for its OTT release, encountering issues between T-Series and producer Murad Khetani.
