Swatantrya Veer Savarkar trailer launch: “This is an anti-propaganda film kyunki propaganda toh Savarkar ji ki life pe bahut saalon se logon ne macha ke rakha hai” – Randeep Hooda

The trailer of Swatantrya Veer Savarkar was held today at a multiplex in Mumbai in the presence of actor-producer-director Randeep Hooda and fellow producers, Sandeep Singh and Anand Pandit. During the Q-and-A session with the media, Randeep was asked whether he feared that the biopic would be addressed as a ‘propaganda movie’ by a section of the audience and media.

Randeep Hooda replied, “I believe that this is an anti-propaganda film kyunki propaganda toh Savarkar ji ki life pe bahut saalon se logon ne macha ke rakha hai. This film clears that propaganda.”

He added, “I want people to debate about it. The more people reject the film on social media, the more it’ll reach out to people, in my opinion.”

He also revealed, “We were going to release this film last year on August 15. Due to reasons out of our control, it’s now releasing this year on March 22.”

Randeep Hooda explained how he went to extreme lengths to get into the skin of his character. He also said that he went to the Cellular Jail in Andaman and Nicobar Islands where Veer Savarkar was imprisoned. Randeep confessed that he felt suffocated though he hardly stayed inside the jail.

In the beginning, he also stated, “In the 80s, there was a movie made on Gandhi ji. Subsequently, movies were made on Sardar Patel, Raja Ravi Verma, Charles Sobhraj, Sarabjit etc. So, why not Savarkar? I think movies are a great medium for reaching out to people, even internationally. America has done that very well recently with Oppenheimer. But in our country, we are shooting down our own icons, which is unbelievable. Hence, my question to everybody is – why not a movie on Savarkar?”

Swatantrya Veer Savarkar also stars Ankita Lokhande and Amit Sial. It is also backed by Zee Studios.
