Rank | Last week | Film | Plusses | Minuses |
1 | 1 | Guru | In spite of controlled publicity, the 'Guru' does remarkably Top Ten albums – SEI reaches Top-3, Anwar shows a jump too
well at the music stands. There may not have been one single chartbuster song that could be termed as the USP of 'Guru' but collectively the album works for the listener. | 'Ek Lo Ek Muft' and 'Baazi Laga' are not much impressive
audio-wise and may only do well if integrated seamlessly with the flow of the film! |
2 | 2 | Dhoom 2 | Pritam ends a terrific year on a high with even an average
soundtrack like 'Dhoom 2' turning out to be successful due to sheer franchise and face value. All eyes are now set on his next big release 'Metro' where he reunites with his 'Gangster' director Anurag Basu. | With talks about 'Dhoom 3' in the making catching up heat,
one expects Pritam to deliver a much better soundtrack in case he is roped in to compose for the film. |
3 | 4 | Salaam-E-Ishq | 3 weeks on the stands and 'Salaam-E-Ishq' enters Top-3 of
the music charts. By the time film releases on 25th January, this Shankar Ehsaan Loy soundtrack is destined to grace the chart at the top. | If you are looking for something drastically unconventional,
the music of 'Salaam-E-Ishq' is not the one for you! |
4 | 3 | Don - The Chase Begins Again | Music of 'Don' moves out of Top-3 for the first time but
there shouldn't be much worry for SEL since they are the composer trio of SEI which has displaced 'Don'. | Comparisons with the music of original 'Don' were
inevitable. This was the cause of cynics running amok when the soundtrack released. |
5 | 5 | Woh Lamhe | Second soundtrack of Pritam to be in the Top-5 of the
charts, 'Woh Lamhe' continues to be remarkable at the top. It is hard to find a single compilation album by T-Series today that doesn't feature at least one song from the film. | None |
6 | 6 | Bas Ek Pal | Some great music aided by aggressive publicity has ensured
that music of 'Bas Ek Pal' is not just liked but loved by the paying public. Melody works....and how! | None |
7 | 9 | Anwar | Mithoon's success story of 'Bas Ek Pal' is repeated, though
to a lesser extent, in 'Anwar' where his two songs 'Maula' and 'Tose Naina Lage' are scorching the charts. Roop Kumar Rathod and Khsitij & Shilpa Rao are the singers for the two songs who come up with a superb performance. | Pankaj Awasthi has gone truly unconventional which makes
remaining album quite unexciting |
8 | 7 | Kabul Express | After 'Kabul Fiza', best song of the album 'Banjar' has
been premiered on the small screen too [though belatedly and that too as a background piece]. | Since the film doesn't have any songs in the narrative,
music sales of 'Kabul Express' are not expected to grow any further |
9 | 8 | Bhagam Bhag | Unlike 'Kabul Express', music sales of 'Bhagam Bhag' are
expected to show a rise as the film releases today. The movie is expected to be successful and that should help Pritam smile once more for this album which as per him is his favorite of the season. | Music isn't as exciting as Priyan-Pritam last outing 'Garam Masala' |
10 | 10 | Baabul | The movie has underperformed at the box office and the
same reflects in music sales too. Aadesh Srivastava had come up with some good tunes and if the film would have gone the 'Baghban' way, the music would have caught up too. | It's a pity that Big B sung 'Kehta Hai Baabul' couldn't get
its due |
