UT 69: Raj Kundra recalls the letters he received when he was in Arthur Road Jail

Raj Kundra spent 63 days in Arthur Road jail after he was accused of producing pornographic content.

After teasing audiences with a series of teasers and trailers for the past couple of weeks, Raj Kundra finally unveiled the truth behind his upcoming film — UT 69. The trailer launch event, which was held in Mumbai last week, not only showcased Raj Kundra unmasking himself in front of the media but also shed light on the storyline of UT69, which is inspired by the entrepreneur’s experience in Arthur Road Jail. While he relived those challenging times in reel life, Raj was seen recalling those painful moments quite emotionally on social media.

The entrepreneur-turned-actor, who is gearing up to tell his story to the world, took to Instagram to post a story that featured letters which were written to him by his family, especially his son Viaan during his imprisonment. He captioned it saying, “Going through my letters and notes from jail”. Along with envelopes addressed to Arthur Road Jail, the photo also featured a lovely moment where Shilpa Shetty Kundra was seen feeding laddu to their son Viaan, and going by the picture, it seemed like a cutting from a newspaper.

Speaking of UT69, the film is expected to feature the life of Raj Kundra in prison with a unique perspective on it. The film revolves around 63 days Raj spent in Arthur Road Jail, Mumbai, during his under-trial period. Although it deals with a rather serious subject, it has been given a witty dark comedy twist and aims at capturing the trials, challenges, and unexpected friendships that Raj encountered during his time in jail.

“This is more than just a movie for me! While it’s a closure of sorts, you will see through my eyes a story about survival, friendships, and relationships inside India’s most notoriously crowded infamous detention centre, also known as Arthur Road Jail,” Raj Kundra had said during the trailer launch.

The film is directed by Shahnawaz Ali. Speaking about the film, Ali had revealed, “UT69 is a slice of life film about a celebrity among misfits. It’s a light-hearted film about trying to find the best in the worst of situations, and living beyond sorrows. For me, telling the story through humour was more impactful than any other way. Raj’s story was unique, and it needed unique storytelling. But at its heart, it's a human story that will connect with all audiences.”

Slated for theatrical release on November 3, 2023, UT 69 starring Raj Kundra, is brought to you by AA Films, produced by SVS Studios, and co-produced by THE BIGGER PICTURE FILMS.
