Vasan Bala reveals why he is working with Karan Johar on Alia Bhatt-starrer Jigra: “He’s backed me and he’s letting me run with it” : Bollywood News

Filmmaker Vasan Bala is directing Alia Bhatt in an upcoming movie Jigra. The film is her co-production, under her banner Eternal Sunshine Productions, with Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. Bala recently revealed the reason behind joining forces with Karan on this particular project.

In a recent interview with The Week, Vasan Bala said, “I was neither inspired nor begrudged by Johar’s films, as we are different types of storytellers. Somen Mishra asked me to meet Karan and when I did, it was refreshing to see someone who didn’t come with an approach that he’s a big producer and I could either take his script or leave it. He asked me what I liked to make. I was convinced this would be an equal creative collaboration, he’s backed me and he’s letting me run with it.”

Meanwhile, in an interview with the same portal, KJo said, "We are working with some people we never imagined we would be working with. Vasan Bala is making a film for us (Jigra, slated for a 2024 release, starring and co-produced by Alia Bhatt), Neeraj Ghaywan is another. And so is Sandeep Modi, director of The Night Manager (series; 2023). Selecting Somen was also exciting for us because he told me he fell asleep watching Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. I loved his honesty."

With Jigra, Alia Bhatt collaborates with Karan Johar for the 12th time. She made her debut with Student of the Year under Karan's direction and banner. The film is set to release in theatres on September 27, 2024.
