Will the postponement of Prabhas-starrer Salaar benefit Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jawan? Trade experts share their views

The month of September was all set to be historic with the release of two potential blockbusters, Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jawan on September 7, and Prabhas-starrer Salaar on September 28. However, speculation began on Friday that Salaar will not be able to make it this month. A few hours later, Excel Entertainment confirmed that their comic caper, Fukrey 3, will be out in cinemas on September 28. This confirmed the speculation that Salaar had indeed moved. A day later, the makers of Salaar announced that the Prashanth Neel-directorial will now arrive in theatres in November.

As a result, Jawan will now face limited competition till Dussehra or perhaps, Diwali. We asked trade experts if this would benefit the Atlee-directorial.

Trade veteran Taran Adarsh observed, “Earlier, people felt that it’ll only get a 3-week window as Salaar was scheduled to release on September 28. Agar Jawan chipak jaati hai, it’ll be a major advantage.”

Raj Bansal, the owner of Entertainment Paradise in Jaipur, felt that had Salaar released as per the original plan, Jawan would have continued to perform strongly. He explained, “I don’t agree. Prabhas doesn’t have such a huge fan following in the North. He can’t touch Shah Rukh Khan. Gadar 2 collected an insane Rs. 4.50 crores on its fourth Friday. Hence, Gadar 2 would continue to do good business even after Jawan’s release. Similarly, if Jawan is accepted, it wouldn’t have stopped (despite the release of Salaar).”

Besides Shah Rukh Khan, Jawan also stars Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Sanya Malhotra, Sunil Grover, Ridhi Dogra and Yogi Babu. The film’s advance booking commenced on Friday, September 1, with a bang. The film is expected to be the biggest opener ever and has a chance of collecting nearly Rs. 70 crores on day 1 in Hindi.

Salaar, meanwhile, features Shruti Haasan as the female lead. It is directed by Prashanth Neel of KGF fame.
