Actress Yami Gautam gained notoriety after her Vicky Donor debut. She has also received appreciation for her work in the films Kaabil, Badlapur, Bala, and A Thursday. In a recent interview, Yami has stated that she wants to play Madhubala and also a warrior princess in a costume drama.
Yami Gautam told PTI in an interview, “I feel there are so many (roles) but one thing I definitely want to do in life… I love costume dramas. I would love to play the role of a warrior princess one day.”
When asked about her ideal biopic role, she responded that Madhubala would be her first choice. She said, “I had once said that I would love to portray Madhubala ji if I am asked to choose a biopic. She remains an icon. After Madhubala ji, I have two-three personalities in mind. But, I would like to first sign and then talk about any role.”
The actress was in Kolkata to promote her film Lost for ZEE5, which was directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury. As a performer, the actor claimed that she looks for fascinating assignments rather than concentrating on the platform. “I am an actor first. My job is to look for the best of opportunities that I can get. I don’t find any difference between OTT and big-screen productions. That is the producer’s prerogative (for which platform the film is made) and I am doing my job as an actor, be it on OTT or big screen.”
Yami and her husband Aditya Dhar, the director of her film Uri, discuss about original ideas because they are both belong to same profession. “I feel happy when he feels happy that I have done a good job. He is, of course, my husband but, at the same time, a prolific director whose feedback I look forward to. So, we definitely exchange ideas,” she added.
In her upcoming project Lost, Gautam portrays a journalist who covers crime. She has come to Kolkata to find someone. She said, ““It is an investigative thriller, an emotional human drama. It also talks about the media in today’s time… The film talks about human values, basic things in life and was shot entirely in Kolkata during the pandemic. We hope the film works. Abhik da (cinematographer Abhik Mukhopadhyay) shot the scenes beautifully. The film has its own pace.”
During her visit to Kolkata, the actor claimed she indulged herself on street food and regional specialties. “I think I visited almost every known place in the city. And, I had famous street foods like ‘puchka’. I also went to Flury’s and an entire sequence was shot there,” she added.
Yami made her acting debut in Bollywood with Vicky Donor in 2012, opposite Ayushmann Khurrana. She has starred in several movies such as Kaabil, Sanam Re, Bala, Ginny weds Sunny, A Thursday, Badlapur, Dasvi among others. She will be next seen in Lost, which is set to drop on OTT platform ZEE5 on February 16. She has Oh My God 2 and Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga in the pipeline.
