The Auditors Review: Shin Ha Kyun faces off corruption as fierce prosecutor in new workplace K-drama with Jin Goo, Lee Jung Ha

en Bollywood News The Auditors Review: Shin Ha Kyun faces off corruption as fierce prosecutor in new workplace K-drama with Jin Goo, Lee Jung Ha

Premiered on July 6, the crime thriller promises a rollercoaster ride.

Korean dramas have long served up stories of justice, with detectives, lawyers, and prosecutors battling corruption. But in the new crime thriller, The Auditors, the heroes are a team of accountants. Premiering on July 6, the drama follows a reshuffled audit team at a corrupt construction firm. Led by the steely Shin Ha Kyun, they're on a mission to expose and eradicate any trace of financial wrongdoing. The Korean title, "Gamsahamnida," cleverly plays a double role, meaning both "to audit" and "thank you." But another meaning to “Gamsa” is “an inspector” or “an auditor.” This hints at the series' exploration of moral dilemmas within the auditing world. Will the team prioritize rigid adherence to the rules, or will their emotions influence their actions as they fight for justice within the company? The Auditors promises a thrilling journey, exposing the underbelly of corporate greed and celebrating the pursuit of truth.

The Auditors Review: Shin Ha Kyun faces off corruption as fierce prosecutor in new workplace K-drama with Jin Goo, Lee Jung Ha

We meet Shin Cha Il (played by Shin Ha Kyun), a ruthless auditor with a keen eye to spot and clear any wrong-doings. He joins JU Construction, a firm which is rife with corruption and malpractices. His introduction in the drama is quite thrilling. He is a non-nonsense auditor who does not care what the reasons for embezzlement and corruption were.

A great character development comes with a great background story. Initially with Shin Cha Il, we see that he is someone who holds truth and justice above everything else. He has a painful past of his own that fuels his ruthless actions to bring corrupt people to justice by any means necessary. He lost his father in a building collapse accident. Judging from the limited scenes of Shin Cha Il’s past, we can fairly assume that his father was also a victim of corrupt practices.

For someone who works with such strict morals, it is definitely difficult for Shin Cha Il to form a human connection. But we see him beginning to show some change when it comes to his approach with Go Han Su (played by Lee Jung Ha). Go Han Su is a good foil to Shin Cha Il. Both of them have different approaches to work. Where Shin is more practical and technical, Go is more emotional and trusting. Slowly, we see that the two are starting to build a rapport of a mentor and a mentee.

Supplementing the corruption storyline is a good old chaebol sibling rivalry. While one attempts to follow the right path, the other attempts to cut corners and accumulate unjust profits. Jung Moon Sung as Hwang Se Woong and Jin Goo as Hwang Dae Woong give us a good glimpse of what happens when personal issues are mixed with professional ones. It is a welcome change to see Jin Goo play the antagonist on screen. His character is the typical spoiled chaebol brat who does not mind the consequences as long as he is in the benefit. Jung Moon Sung’s character so far seems to be a decent one, but one can never be sure when it comes to a chaebol heir! Hwang Se Woong is a man of a few words, but what he says makes quite a lot of difference. Other characters are quite stock characters with a typical character sketch. We see glimpses of workplace politics, hierarchical methods, spying and also milking favours within the firm. Hopefully, these characters will have a minor development arc where they realise their folly soon.

So far in the first two episodes we have seen one incident being resolved at JU Construction. But that was just the tip of the iceberg. For a company that has been running in deficit for the past five years, there will be much more to uncover. Episode two gave us an interesting revelation that Seo Jin (played by Jo Aram) of the Audit department is Dae Woong’s niece. She is one of the youngest members of the team and quite cold in her demeanor. She has managed to play her cards smartly so far, smartly concealing her identity. But does she have any ulterior motive or is she truly fighting for the right thing? We will find that out this week as new episodes of The Auditors premiere on TVIng.

The Auditors delivers a captivating story in a concise 70 minutes. It unfolds smoothly, letting the plot breathe and develop naturally. Flashbacks are sprinkled in cleverly, ensuring viewers stay connected with crucial details. The drama's strength lies in its dual perspective. We witness Shin Ha-Il, the by-the-book auditor, meticulously dissect financial loopholes. While his approach is technical and unemotional, we gradually understand his empathy for the motivations behind those actions. However, he never lets emotions cloud his judgment. He thrives on proof and evidence, ensuring watertight cases against the corrupt.

The Korean title adds another intriguing layer. It mirrors the duality of Shin Ha-Il's final proposition to each culprit: two paths forward. The "receiver" ultimately decides the consequences of their crimes. Similarly, the drama leaves the meaning of "Gamsahamnida" hanging in the air, inviting viewers to ponder its significance.

The Auditors presents a compelling choice: dive into an intense narrative or revel in Shin Ha Kyun's stellar performance. Ultimately, the decision rests with you.
