en Bollywood News From BTS’ Jung Kook to BLACKPINK’s Lisa, here’s a round-up of Korean music in July 2024

K.Will fulfilled every K-pop fans' wish with ‘No Sad Song For My Broken Heart’, a sequel to his 2012 hit song ‘Please Don’t’.

The month of June brought in a wave of unpredictable weather in certain parts of the world. That unpredictability reflected in the K-pop scene as well, but it was met with much better enthusiasm. The month of June saw comebacks from groups like Red Velvet and Epik High, solo stars like LISA of Blackpink and CHUU, among others. K.Will fulfilled every K-pop fans' wish with ‘No Sad Song For My Broken Heart’, a sequel to his 2012 hit song ‘Please Don’t’. Let’s take a look at some of the most memorable comebacks in the month of June 2024.

From BTS’ Jung Kook to BLACKPINK’s Lisa, here’s a round-up of Korean music in July 2024

1. BTS JUNG KOOK - NEVER LET GO
BTS Jung Kook gave the fans a good surprise with his latest single ‘Never Let Go.’ The song employs a stunning mix of R&B and tropical beats as Jungkook croons a message of hope and strength. The song sounds like a remix despite not being one. As the group BTS clocked 11 successful years since their debut, this song just serves as a good reminder for the fans and to themselves to never let go.

2. BLACKPINK LISA - ROCKSTAR
LISA has been making blink and you miss appearances at social events but there was quite a gap in any new music from the talented rapper. The wait ended as LISA announced her much anticipated comeback with the single ‘Rockstar.’ The rapper-songwriter uses futuristic and rad visuals in a song that reflects her personality as a bold and beautiful artist. The song is heavy on the rap and hip hop beats enmeshed in a web of trap as LISA belts out hard hitting verses.

3. CHUU - STRAWBERRY RUSH
How can the music video be ordinary when one of the bubbliest artists in the K-pop industry makes a comeback? Our dear CHUU made a comeback with ‘Strawberry Rush’ a fun pop number which incorporates fantastical elements as she sings the eccentric lyrics. Her sweet vocals lend a cartoon-like feel to the overall song.

4. BIG OCEAN - BLOW
Big Ocean has been making waves since the debut was announced. This group consists of hard of hearing members and they employ sign language into their choreography to communicate with hard of hearing fans. The trio sing the fun dance tunes of ‘Blow’ in their latest comeback. It is encouraging to see a group give their best efforts in an industry that requires one to be an all-rounder on all accounts.

5. JEONGHAN X WONWOO (SEVENTEEN) - THIS MAN
Jeonghan and Wonwoo came and they served! The duo made a comeback with the song ‘This Man’. The track is as cinematic as any track can get, both in audio and the video. The duo complement each other’s singing styles with their low-register and husky tones. The smooth R&B tones make an appearance and cast a mysterious aura around the track.

6. EPIK HIGH - ANTI HERO
A new chapter has officially begun in Epik High’s discography. After what felt like a conclusion with Epik High Is Here Part 1 & 2, Epik High made a stunning comeback with a new slew of songs up their arsenal. The group made a comeback with the album Pump. It features the track ‘Anti Hero’, which is quite antithetical to what they have sung before. But at the same time it stands true to the ideology that is Epik High. The song presents a nostalgic mix of tones that Epik High is synonymous with and yet the group manages to surprise us with their new ideas each time.

7. RED VELVET - COSMIC
The ‘Psycho’ hitmakers have a comeback with a new fantasy tale. In the music video, we can see the members traversing through mystical land as they sing the mystical tunes of their comeback song ‘Cosmic’. These days, one sees a repeated mention of sun, signs and everything spiritual. Red Velvet smartly picked up on these divine interventions and presented an exotic mix of music and lyrics in ‘Cosmic’.

8. TWS – If I’m S, Can You Be My N?
The group dropped their second mini-album SUMMER BEAT! The album’s title track ‘If I’m S, Can You Be My N?’ captures the essence of TWS’ brilliant summer and this very moment. This hybrid pop track blends elements of funky rhythms with vivid synth sounds. The lead single uses the analogy of a magnet’s south and north poles to express excitement of realizing the reason why opposites attract. It naturally portrays the process of two different people gradually becoming one through relatable musical storytelling. The catchy melody highlights TWS’ refreshing and youthful voices.

9. EVNNE – BADDER LOVE
EVNNE has returned with their third mini-album, RIDE or DIE. The title track ‘Badder Love’, released in Korean and English, made it the group’s first official English song. The lyrics express EVNNE’s reckless passion as they fearlessly try to reach their fans with their love as well as continue to chase after their dreams together.

Special Mention: K.Will’s ‘No Sad Song For My Broken Heart’, Hwi Young ‘Is It Love’, and Everglow ‘Zombie’.
