Rian Johnson reveals he wanted to drop ‘A Knives Out Mystery’ from ‘Glass Onion’ title.

Director Rian Johnson recently revealed that he is not a fan of the title of his recent Daniel Craig outing Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. The director expressed frustration over having to add A Knives Out Mystery to the film's title for marketing purposes. “I’ve tried hard to make them self-contained,” Johnson told The Atlantic, according to Variety. “Honestly, I’m pissed off that we have ‘A Knives Out Mystery’ in the title. You know? I want it to just be called ‘Glass Onion.'”

He continued, “I get it, and I want everyone who liked the first movie to know this is next in the series, but also, the whole appeal to me is it’s a new novel off the shelf every time. But there’s a gravity of a thousand suns toward serialized storytelling.”

Rian Johnson’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery has an ensemble cast of Daniel Craig, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick and Madelyn Cline with Kate Hudson and Dave Bautista.

The official logline for the film reads, “In the follow up to Rian Johnson's KNIVES OUT, Detective Benoit Blanc travels to Greece to peel back the layers of a mystery involving a new cast of colorful suspects.”

The film recently dropped on Netflix on December 23 and gained over 82.1 million hours viewership in the first three days of its premiere on the streaming giant. As the report notes, Johnson and Craig have already signed a deal to develop a third Knives Out movie for Netflix.
