South Korean pop-group Big Bang's former member Seungri, who was sentenced for a year and half-in prison, has been officially released from prison, two days earlier than scheduled. Seungri was originally scheduled to be released on February 11. According to Allkpop tabloid, on February 9, an official from the Ministry of Justice confirmed reports the former Big Bang member was released from prison 2 days earlier than scheduled. The official stated, "Seungri, former member of Big Bang, was released from Yeoju Prison this morning."
Seungri faced nine criminal charges including the violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Economic Crimes, violation of the Food Sanitation Act, embezzlement, violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes, habitual gambling, violation of the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act, prostitution mediation, purchase of prostitution services, and special violence instigation.
After two separate appeals, the singer was eventually sentenced to a year and half in prison and a fine of 1.1 billion Won (over Rs. 7.16 crores). As previously reported, from December 2015 to January the following year, Seungri was also accused of mediating prostitution several times for investors in Taiwan, Japan, and Hong Kong, as well as purchasing prostitution services for himself, in order to attract investment for clubs and financial investment businesses.
