In a stern warning to those engaging in the creation and dissemination of deepfake content involving the popular K-pop female group TWICE, JYP Entertainment has announced its intention to pursue legal action. The company, which represents TWICE, has expressed deep concern over the increasing prevalence of AI-generated videos that manipulate the group's members' appearances and actions.
According to media outlet Soompi, JYP Entertainment's statement, released on August 30, outlined the company's determination to protect its artists' rights and maintain their integrity. The agency emphasized that the creation and distribution of deepfake content is a clear violation of the law and that it would not tolerate such harmful actions.
The company's decision to take legal action comes in response to the growing number of deepfake videos featuring TWICE members that have surfaced online. The statement read, “We are gravely concerned about the recent spread of deepfake (AI-generated) videos involving our artists. This is a blatant violation of the law, and we are in the process of collecting all relevant evidence to pursue the strongest legal action with a leading law firm, without leniency. We want to make it clear that we will not stand by while our artists’ rights are violated and will take decisive action to address this matter to the fullest extent possible.”
JYP Entertainment's announcement comes after there’s been reports of misuse of AI technology especially towards women artists.
