Apple has some grand plans for its upcoming historical drama titled Killers of the Flower Moon, from celebrated director Martin Scorsese! The film is set to have its premiere at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, which is due to take place from May 16 to May 27.
Killers of the Flower Moon will mark Scorsese’s first official selection at the festival since 1986’s After Hours. The historical drama, which is based on David Grann’s non-fiction book, will open in limited theaters starting October 6 and then have a wide release on October 20. According to Collider, Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City and James Mangold’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny are also expected to premiere at Cannes this year.
Leonardo DiCaprio will headline the ensemble cast that includes Robert De Niro, Brendan Fraser, Jesse Plemons, Lily Gladstone, and John Lithgow. “When oil is discovered in 1920s Oklahoma under Osage Nation land, the Osage people are murdered one by one — until the FBI steps in to unravel the mystery,” reads the film’s official synopsis.
Being produced by Apple Original Films, Killers of the Flower Moon will stream on Apple TV+ at an unspecified date following its theatrical release. The film was produced alongside Imperative Entertainment, Sikelia Productions and Appian Way. Scorsese, Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas and Daniel Lupi are attached as producers with DiCaprio, Rick Yorn, Adam Sommer, Marianne Bower, Lisa Frechette, John Atwood, Shea Kammer and Niels Juul serving as executive producers.
