SEVENTEEN, the dynamic K-pop group, consistently captivates its fans with innovative musical experiments at each comeback. Last year, they commanded attention with the powerful anthem ‘Super’, which lingered in the minds of fans for weeks. In the second quarter of this year, SEVENTEEN released the EP 17 Is Right Her, further showcasing their evolution. Their stunning performance at Lollapalooza 2024 in Berlin left audiences in awe, heightening anticipation for their next musical offering. On October 14, 2024, SEVENTEEN delighted fans once more with the release of their 12th EP, Spill the Feels. This new collection features six tracks that explore themes of love, nostalgia, personal growth, and a hopeful outlook for the future, solidifying their reputation for meaningful storytelling through music.

1. EYES ON YOU

Seventeen starts off with a foot-stomping number ‘Eyes On You’. The song is a party number through and through. The members sing about an initial attraction that makes them want to know the other person more. There is a demand for honest and unfiltered communication in this track, something that we often find largely amiss in real-life relationships. This DJ-heavy track is sure to keep you humming long after the song has ended.

2. LOVE, MONEY, FAME (FT DJ KHALED)

Manifest it enough and it will come true one day. Hoshi surely manifested a collaboration with DJ Khaled and here it is finally! ‘Love, Money, Fame’ is a funky mix of compositions. The members croon to the idea of having love before money or fame. The song flows smoothly between the vocal transitions and conjures up happy imagery. One could say that it serves as an answer to the questions posed in the earlier track. DJ Khaled’s role is short but noticeable in the song.

3. 1 TO 13

‘1 to 13’ is a track that nods at the group’s initial days in the industry. The song also is like a thank you letter for the fans as the members express their gratitude for the fans’ love and support. The song is a cheerful track and employs a smooth reverb-like tone in the song.

4. CANDY

The vocal unit DK, Seungkwan, Joshua, Woozi and Jeonghan serenade the listeners with ‘Candy’. This ballad number is like a back-and-forth about what love truly is. The members compare love to a candy that can be enjoyed in small doses. That would increase the anticipation and appreciation for the love one has.

5. RAIN

The performance unit, Hoshi, Dino, The8 and Jun, display a suave vocal harmony in ‘Rain’. The track is a sleek and smooth composition that possesses just the right beats for any listener to dance away in the rain. This futuristic disco-inspired track uses the rain as a metaphor to seek a solution for confusion and uncertainty. The singers are hopeful that the rain will wash away the uncertainties and clarity thereafter will lead them on a new path.

6. WATER

The album concludes with the hip-hop unit Mingyu, S.Coups, Wonwoo and Vernon singing a trap-infused track ‘Water’. Unlike the previous tracks that showed a hint of uncertainty or need for reassurance, “Water” bursts with confidence.

SEVENTEEN continues to demonstrate their remarkable versatility across various musical genres with Spill the Feels. This EP beautifully intertwines elements of their past with a vision for the future, reflecting their journey of appreciating their history, processing the present, and embracing the possibilities that lie ahead. There’s a refreshing blend of familiarity and innovation in this comeback.
