Minari actor Steven Yeun is headed to Marvel Cinematic Universe! The Oscar-nominated actor will join Florence Pugh and Sebastian Stan to star in MCU film Thunderbolts.
According to Variety, it’s unclear at the moment who the actor will portray in the film, which is expected to start shooting in June. It’s likely that his character will play a role in the future of the sprawling MCU. He joins a star-studded cast that was announced during Disney’s D23 event last year.
The ensemble includes Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost and Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster. Ayo Edebiri also joined the ensemble in an undisclosed role.
The anti-hero adventure film will be helmed by Jake Schreier and the feature will conclude MCU’s Phase Five which began with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and continues with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, The Marvels, Captain America: New World Order, Blade and Deadpool 3.
The script comes from Black Widow writer Eric Pearson with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige producing the pic whose details are being hushed. Though in the comics, Thunderbolts follows a group of villains who are sent on missions commissioned by the government.
Meanwhile on the work front, Yeun shot to prominence through his starring role in The Walking Dead and received an Oscar nomination for Minari. The actor recently starred in Jordan Peele’s UFO thriller Nope. He will next appear in Bong Joon Ho directorial Micky 17 starring Robert Pattinson.
Thunderbolts is slated to release in theaters on July 26, 2024.
