Case filed against Malayalam actor Siddique on charges of rape and sexual harassment

This comes after the actor resigned from the post of General Secretary from the Malayalam film community’s organization AMMA.

The Kerala film industry has become the center of attention in a series of sexual harassment cases which has been filed against the men who are a part of the industry which has seriously resulted in many resignations of actors from various film-related organizations. Actor Siddique found himself in the midst of some heinous chargers over the weekend when he was accused of rape and assault by a popular actress. With the matter now escalated to the authorities, the Kerala police has intervened and filed FIR (First Information Report) against the actor after the actress registered the complaint in Trivandrum Museum Police on Tuesday.

On August 27, the actress also approached the Special Investigations Team (SIT) to further investigate the sexual harassment and assault cases that many have claimed to be rampant in the Malayalam film industry. The Hema Committee Report which was released recently has had a widespread impact in the Malayalam film industry with many actors facing not only facing serious allegations but also ending up losing their reputation and image. Similarly, in case of actor Siddique, after resigning from the post of general secretary from AMMA, the actor is facing serious non-bailable charges that could even prevent his bail in the future.

Meanwhile, the actor too has filed a plea retaliating the allegations wherein he has asserted that the charges are to defame him with a motive to tarnish his image. For the unversed, the said complainant, who is an actress, revealed in a recent statement that she was called to a certain Mascot Hotel in Kerala in a bid to discuss a film where she was assaulted by Siddique. However, the latter vehemently denies it adding that he has only met the actress once in his life in 2016, in front of her parents.
