For the unversed, Thangalaan, a historical drama set against the backdrop of early 19th-century India, delves into the true story of the Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) in Karnataka. Uniquely, the film was shot on location at the actual KGF site, adding a layer of authenticity to the narrative. The story unfolds around the lives of the miners who toiled in the Kolar Gold Fields. Discovered over a thousand years ago, the mines were exploited and looted by the British for their own gain. This injustice sparked a massive rebellion among the local population, a fight for their rights and livelihood.

Thangalaan brings this historical struggle to life and showcases Chiyaan Vikram in a captivating new role – a tribal leader at the forefront of the resistance. The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast featuring Pasupathy, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan, Daniel Caltagirone, Harikrishnan Anbudurai, Vettai Muthukumar, and Arjun Anbudan, among others.
