Darbar producer Lyca Productions oppose plea of Malaysian distributors for stalling the release of the film : Bollywood News

The producer of Rajinikanth starrer Darbar on Friday opposed the Malaysian distributor's plea for stalling the release of the Tamil film and called the claim that they owed the Malaysian distributor over Rs 23 crores as false. When the civil suit filed by DMY Creations SDN BHD came up for hearing before Justice G Jayachandran, Lyca Productions Private Limited said that the plea has been moved only with a view to harassing them ahead of the release of the high stakes movie, set for January 9.

DMY creations claimed that the Darbar makers owed them Rs 23.70 crores in connection with distribution of various Tamil films produced by Lyca including 2.0, Kaala and Vadachennai in Malaysia in the past. After hearing the plea, the Madras High Court judge reserved orders on the suit.

DMY creations in their petition claimed that Lyca had promised to clear their dues before the release of Darbar and also to give preference to them for the film. But the Malaysian distributors learnt that Lyca had been negotiating with others to give territorial rights in Malaysian region.

If the court does not protect the firm with an interim order restraining Lyca from releasing Darbar before settling the dues, the chances of recovery will become very slim, DMY Creations said.
