Tamil writer-actor Vela Ramamurthy has accused the makers of the film Captain Miller, featuring Dhanush and directed by Arun Matheswaran, of blatant plagiarism. Ramamurthy, known for his contributions to Tamil literature, asserts that the storyline of Captain Miller is an unauthorised reproduction of his novel titled Pattathu Yaanai.
Expressing his discontent with the prevailing situation in the Tamil film industry, Ramamurthy suggested the significance of upholding intellectual property rights and condemned the unauthorised adaptation of creative content without due authorization.
In a statement to Pudhiya Thalamurai, he remarked, "The film has been based on my novel Pattathu Yaanai. I need justice for this plagiarism. There’s no honesty in the film industry. I am going to approach the Tamil cinema director’s union. Hope, filmmaker Bharathiraja sir will give justice to me."
Ramamurthy clarified that his pursuit is not fueled by a desire for fame or financial gain, as he has already achieved both in abundance. Instead, he seeks justice for his intellectual work.
Speaking of the epic action-adventure film, besides Dhanush, it also stars Shiva Rajkumar, Priyanka Arul Mohan, Aditi Balan and Sundeep Kishan, among others. Set in the 1930s, during the British Raj, the flick revolves around a former British Army soldier trying to save his home village from destruction by the British Army. Captain Miller was released on January 12, 2024.
