Kamal Haasan reveals he and Rajinikanth made a conscious decision of not featuring in films together; says, “We made this call when we were in our 20s”

Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan have featured together in several films in the past including Hindi movies.

Known to rule the Tamil Cinema industry for decades now, megastars Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth kicked off their career as co-stars. However, over the years, as the actors have managed to carve their own niche, they have never made an appearance together for almost four decades now, despite the fact that the two of them have shared a great friendship off screen. Recently, in an interaction, the Vikram actor addressed this subject, wherein he confessed that it was conscious decision made by both at a much younger age.

Kamal mentioned that they talked about it and arrived at this decision quite amicably. He told Indian Express, “It’s not a new combination. We have done many films together. Then we decided not to work together. We are not like two competitors.”

He further addressed the subject of having the same mentor, which is Tamil filmmaker K Balachander and added, “Unlike any other place, the competition is there, openly. But there’s no envy and it’s two different paths”. Further appreciating about how they have always shared a healthy competition without it impacting their personal lives or camaraderie with each other, Kamal added, “We also never make snide remarks about each other. We made this call when we were in our 20s; it’s not that we became older and wiser now.”

For the unversed, Kamal and Rajinikanth have featured in a wide range of Tamil films like 16 Vayanthinile, Moondru Mudichu, Ilamai Oonjal Aadukirathu among many others along with the Hindi film Geraftaar. They have together shared screen space with actors such as the late Sridevi, and Amitabh Bachchan.
