Kamal Haasan's highly anticipated sequel, Indian 2, has hit a rough patch. Released last Friday, the film received largely negative reviews, with many fans criticizing its excessive length and lack of depth. In response, the producers, Lyca Productions, have taken the unusual step of editing the film. A trimmed version, featuring 12 minutes of cuts, is now available in theaters.

The announcement came via social media, with the caption, "Witness the enhanced version of #Indian2 (scissors emoticon). Now presenting a streamlined edition trimmed by 12 min. Catch it in cinemas near you for a crisper experience!”

This move follows Bollywood Hungama’s report that the Telugu version, Bharateeyudu 2, was also significantly shortened. Industry tracker Sreedhar Pillai, on platform X (formerly Twitter), revealed that the Telugu version was trimmed by a substantial 20 minutes starting just two days after release. These edits appear to be a direct response to the film's underwhelming critical reception.

Indian 2 is the long-awaited sequel to S. Shankar's 1996 vigilante action film, Indian. The original film remains a cult classic, lauded for its social commentary and gripping story. It tells the tale of Senapathy, a former freedom fighter who becomes a vigilante to eradicate corruption.

Living up to the legacy of the first film was always going to be a challenge. With an 18-year gap between installments, expectations were sky-high. Unfortunately, the sequel seems to have fallen short, leaving fans and critics alike disappointed.
