Rishab Shetty starrer Kantara finally marked its OTT debut on Amazon Prime Video on November 24. However, a section of fans were not happy with it as the OTT version did not have the iconic ‘Varaha Roopam’ song, which was excluded as Kerala band Thaikudam Bridge had sought legal action against the makers for allegedly copying one of their songs, ‘Navarasam’. As per the latest development in the case, the Kozhikode District Court in Kerala has lifted the ban due to a lack of jurisdiction.
As reported by Live Law India, the Kerala court returned the plaint filed by Thaikkudam Bridge against Hombale Films citing a lack of jurisdiction. The application filed by Hombale Films, the producer of the movie, under Order 7 Rule 10 of the Code of Civil Procedure for the return of the plaint, was allowed. The District Court, reportedly, returned the plaint stating that it should be presented before the competent court.
Live Law India report further added that the court directed the parties to appear before the Commercial Court at Ernakulam within 14 days. However, it is still unclear if the OTT version of the film will add the song or not. Meanwhile, it is worth mentioning that neither the makers nor the band have issued any statement on the court order.
Talking about the film, Kantara was released in the theatres in Kannada on September 30. Following the success of the film, it was later dubbed into other languages. Apart from Rishab, the ensemble star cast of the action-thriller also features Kishore, Achyuth Kumar, Sapthami Gowda and Pramod Shetty in important roles.
