Fans were excited to see the return of Indian after almost three decades and with many expectations from filmmaker S Shankar and adding to it was the love Kamal Haasan received for his performance in Kalki 2898 AD. But alas! It seems that the recently released Indian 2, also starring Siddharth and Rakul Preet Singh, failed to meet audience’s expectations. So, when filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj shared a positive review, appreciating the film, many of them took to the platform to express their disappointment over the same.

While Lokesh Kanagaraj is neck deep in work for Coolie starring Rajinikanth, it seems that the filmmaker decided to catch up last week’s release. The Kamal Haasan starrer left the filmmaker quite impressed as he took to social media to share his thoughts on the action entertainer. “#Indian2 is proof of our #Ulaganayagan @ikamalhaasan sir’s commitment to his craft. Kudos to @shankarshanmugh sir for bringing grand visions to life on a massive scale with @anirudhofficial’s scintillating background score for the film!” Lokesh also made a reference to the recent announcement made by the film makers about a third instalment being in the pipeline as he added, “Can’t wait for #Indian3”.

However, his tweet seems to have left fans quite upset. “How can you give this review? Loki Naa,” asked one of them. Many of them were left frustrated with the filmmaker with some even believing that he was forced to share good words for the film. For the unversed, fans have been taking to social media to slam the film as they were unhappy with not just the plotline but also character sketches and performances in the S Shankar directorial.
“Looks like someone showed him Indian 1996 again … with Indian 2 title card and credits,” commented a fan whereas another one wrote, “‘scintillating background score for the film’ really dont make jokes like this again”. One of the users dropped a remark calling this as the ‘worst thing’ and said, “Vikram’s maker glorifying Indian 2 is the worst thing I saw today. You may be a Kamal fan, Lokesh, but this is very bad.” From calling the film ‘mediocre’ to ‘disaster’ fans did not mince words when they shared their opinion on the Shankar directorial on the platform. “Namma paatha padatha dhan ivarum paathara (Did he see the same film I did)? The movie I saw was not like Kamal Film but one of Santhanam doing a modern day spoof of the Indian 1996” stated one of the netizens. Yet another user compared it with its prequel and added, “Kamalhaasan is a great actor no doubt in this but this movie is a total disaster #Indian is cult I like the de-aging of kamal in the trailer #Indian2Disaster”.

The film marks the return of Senapathy, a former freedom fighter turned vigilante, who isn’t afraid to bend laws and get his hands dirty as he avenges corrupt officials in order to achieve his ultimate goal – justice. After fleeing from the country for being a wanted man, he returns when one of his fans and follower Chitra (Siddharth) wages a war against corruption. Also starring an ensemble supporting cast along with Rakul Preet Singh as the leading lady, Indian 2 released in cinemas on July 12.
