The wait is finally over for fans of Vijay Sethupathi! The much-anticipated trailer for his 50th film, Maharaja, has been released, and it's packed with action, mystery, and a surprise villainous turn by none other than Anurag Kashyap.
Directed by Nithilan Saminathan, Maharaja promises a departure from Sethupathi's usual roles. The trailer, clocking in at just under two minutes, introduces us to the protagonist, Maharaja, played by Sethupathi a barber running a salon in KK Nagar. But something is amiss. Distress is etched on his face as he reports a theft at the police station.
The twist? The stolen item is not your typical missing person, money, or jewellery. It's something called "Lakshmi." The trailer playfully keeps the audience guessing about the true nature of Lakshmi. Is it a pet? A prized possession? Sethupathi's attempt to explain Lakshmi through gestures only adds to the humor and intrigue. The police remain skeptical, but Maharaja is adamant. He warns them to find Lakshmi, leaving the audience hanging with the unspoken threat of what might happen if he doesn't get it back.
Just when you think the trailer can't get any more exciting, it throws a knockout punch. The final scene reveals Anurag Kashyap in a menacing avatar, hinting at his role as the film's antagonist.
Maharaja boasts a supporting cast alongside Vijay Sethupathi and Anurag Kashyap. Mamta Mohandas, Natty (Natraj), Bharathiraja, Abhirami, Singampuli, and Kalki have pivotal roles.
The film is produced by Sudhan Sundaram and Jagadish Palanisamy, helmed under the banners Passion Studios and The Route. B Ajaneesh Loknath is composing the soundtrack.
