Naga Chaitanya faces backlash for referring to Samantha Ruth Prabhu as ‘former spouse’ in his recent statement about his divorce

Naga Chaitanya recently issued a clarification statement after his divorce was accused of being a part of a ‘political conspiracy’.

Indian politician Konda Surekha recently stirred controversy when she claimed that the divorce between Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya was a part of a political conspiracy where the actress was allegedly blackmailed into taking this step. This prompted both the stars to issue a clarification statement wherein while Samantha respectfully addressed Surekha Konda on the statement, Naga Chaitanya too penned a note where he referred to Samantha as former spouse without taking her name. This hasn’t gone down well with several social media users.

Along with being a pan India celebrity, it is a known fact that Samantha Ruth Prabhu enjoys a massive fan following across social media platforms. Her fans have often come out in support of the actress on multiple occasions and this time around too they didn’t shy from away from expressing their hurt when Naga Chaitanya referred to the popular actress as ‘former spouse’ in his statement. In the first para, the actor made a reference to Sam saying, “After a lot of thought, a mutual decision was made by me and my former spouse to part ways.” And in another sentence, he mentioned, “I have remained silent all this while out of deep respect for my earlier spouse as well as my family.”

Fans took to the platform to express their displeasure as they felt it was disrespectful towards the actress and dropped their thoughts on the note saying, “So, Samantha has been reduced to a former spouse. Misogynistic much. Even after divorce , she is "yours" . Can't even be decent enough to take her name.” Another fan added a quirky twist and added, “So Samantha is Voldemort, she who must not be named. Pathetic ! "Earlier spouse"... current spouse... future spouse!” “"Former spouse," "earlier spouse" anything but saying her actual name. Respect so deep that he threw her to the wolves who have shamed her in every possible way.,” added another angry fan.

For the unversed, Konda Surekha addressed the divorce of estranged power couple Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya which happened in 2021 and said, “KTR asked to send Samantha in return for not demolishing the N-convention centre. Nagarjuna forced Samantha to go to KTR, but she said no. That led to divorce”. Maintaining her dignity, the actress too reacted to the statement and asserted that the divorce was a mutual decision like her ‘former spouse’. “To be a woman, to come out and work, to survive in a glamorous industry where women are more often than not treated as props, to fall in love & to fall out of love, to still stand up and fight… It takes a lot of courage and strength.” “Konda Surekha Garu, I am proud of what this journey turned me into—please don’t trivialise it. I hope you realise that your words carry significant weight as a minister. I implore you to be responsible and respectful of individuals’ privacy,” she added in her statement.
