After the demise of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, the debate around nepotism was revived once again. Malayalee actor Neeraj Madhav who is popularly known as Moosa from The Family Man took to his Facebook page to write a long post on the power lobbies in Mollywood.
A day after Neeraj Madhav's post, the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) has sought an explanation on the actor's statements about power hierarchies in the Malayalam film industry. As FEFKA cannot directly issue a letter to the actor as an individual and can only bring it up with Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), the artist association of which Neeraj is a part, they have written to AMMA seeking an explanation from the actor. Reportedly, FEFKA has said that his allegations are not specific and has asked him to give them details about people who spoke or behaved in such a manner with him.
In his post, Neeraj has mentioned that there are power lobbies in Malayalam cinema and he also mentioned a production controller and other people in his post with getting into specific details. FEFKA said that trade unions like theirs can intervene and resolve, if they are provided with details on such complaints.
“A famous production controller once told me that there are some ‘unwritten rules’ in Malayalam cinema and that it would do me good if I followed them. I didn’t know what he meant then. But looking back at the six years I spent in the industry, I remember having broken many of these rules. I have had to face the repercussions too,” he wrote in his Facebook post.
Neeraj also pointed out that powerful lobbies operate in the industry and that a certain ‘section of people were actively colluding to nip young and growing talents in the bud’.
