With the ongoing Kolkata rape case and later the Badlapur assault in Maharashtra, crimes against women have become a major concern in the country with many celebrities raising a voice against such atrocities. Joining them is Shruti Haasan who has made a strong statement regarding the ongoing spate of sexual abuse cases going on in the country currently. In a series of impactful and heartfelt Instagram stories, Shruti called for stronger action and societal change to combat these heinous crimes.

Shruti Haasan reposted a series of notes related to sexual crimes against women with majority of the posts related to the ongoing Kolkata rape and murder case. One of the posts among them was shared by influencer Andres Borge who posted a set of messages questioning the authorities and accusing them of slacking in the Kolkata case. According to his notes, the lack of cooperation from the college authorities where the crime happened, the CBI’s snail-paced investigation have led to several loopholes and have not led to any suspects being arrested in the case. In another story, she reposted another major update which was dropped by journalist and news anchor Faye Dsouza wherein she has shared the statistical data of the online searches made of rape video and photos of the Kolkata case victim.

Followed by the reposts of several news articles and such statistical data, Shruti herself penned a note calling out the perpetrators and demanding action against such heinous acts as she said, “I didn't want to just reshare news on my story cause it is scary I always have a hard time trying to process sexual assault. But we have to know the facts and statistics and take it beyond that and talk about it. This needs to stop. women have to feel safe”.
