Vijay’s Master gets a release date; to be the first major Tamil film to hit the theatres since the pandemic

The makers of the much awaited film Master have made an official announcement of the release date of the film. The film will hit the theatres on January 13, a day before Pongal.

Director Lokesh Kanagaraj took to his Twitter handle on Tuesday afternoon to announce the date. Sharing the posters of the film in different languages, Lokesh wrote, "See you soon in theatres".

Master will be the first major Tamil film to hit the theatre in the post pandemic world. The film was initially supposed to release in April this year, however, the pandemic-induced-lockdown led to total shutdown of theatres. The makers had made it clear that they will not go for an exclusive OTT release and will wait for theatres to resume. It has been two months since theatres have reopened in the country at 50% occupancy. A big budget film like Master is expected to bring back people to the theatres.

Meanwhile, two day back, Vijay met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami seeking the government's help ahead of the release of Master. Reportedly, during the meet, Vijay asked the CM to allow 100 % seating capacity at theatres. However, there is no confirmation on the same as of now.

In the film Master, Vijay will be playing the role of a college professor. Vijay Sethupathi will be seen as the antagonist. The film also features Andrea Jeremiah, Malavika Mohanan, Shantanu Bhagyaraj, Arjun Das and Gouri Kishan in pivotal roles. The film is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and jointly bankrolled by XB Film Creators in association with Seven Screen Studio.
