Emraan Hashmi
Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai - Hit
Crook - Flop
It a case of 'kabhi khushi kabhi gham' for Emraan Hashmi as he enjoyed a hit and a flop each. He won't be complaining much though as while Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai came with very good expectations, Crook came with hardly any. This means that those who were searching for that quintessential Emraan Hashmi intensity were left totally satisfied with Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai. On the other hand since not many were excited about Crook to begin with, there was hardly any noise made when Emraan didn't even flatter to deceive with this Bhatt outing. All said and done though, Emraan would certainly be looking forward to that big solo hit that would help him move further up in the charts.
Ranveer Singh
Band Baaja Baaraat - Hit
Not many youngsters start off with a hit. And there are hardly any 'outsiders' that one can think of who enjoyed a solo success in their very first outing. However, Ranveer Singh has got it and in a lot of style with Band Baaja Baaraat turning out to be a surprise success of 2010. The young man from Mumbai had to work hard to turn into a Delhite and he did that with aplomb for this Yash Raj film. He has to be one of those rare leading men who have not just caught the attention of masses but also classes, hence turning out to be a dark horse that won the race. All he needs now is some good choice of films from hereon so that he can not just retain his place in the charts but also give the likes of Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan some run for their money. -

Ranbir Kapoor
Raajneeti - Superhit
Anjaana Anjaani - Above average
If there is one young actor who is fast moving towards the top slot and is pretty close to his senior contemporaries, it is Ranbir Kapoor. Building his reputation in an exponential manner, Ranbir was a hugely contributing factor to the super-hit success of Raajneeti. As a central protagonist, he fetched most attention and acclaim for his complex role where he came trumps despite no quintessential romantic angle per se. The film where he did indulge in romance, Anjaana Anjaani, wasn't half as big a success as Raajneeti but managed to sail through comfortably after a huge opening. A year that was overall good for Ranbir Kapoor, 2010 added on the young actor's profile hence keeping his position steady in the Top-10.
Imran Khan
I Hate LUV Storys - Hit
Break Ke Baad - Below average
Imran Khan was pretty much down but never out despite a Kidnap and Luck behind him. All he needed was the right film that fitted him into the romcom genre, the kind where audience wants to see him in, especially after Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Naa. He got that as well with Karan Johar roping him in for I Hate LUV Storys. The move worked and he was instantly lapped up by the audience. Yes, there were detractors who panned the film but all that mattered for Imran was a hit to act as a shot in the arm, something which he got here. This was followed by Break Ke Baad which was a barely passable film and just about managed to sail through at the box office. Still, with a spotless year behind him where he didn't have to face any flops, Imran has ended 2010 on a smiling note. -

While a few top names (Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan) were missing in action, Salman Khan rose like a phoenix, Ajay Devgn earned his claim into the top zone, youngsters like Ranbir Kapoor, Imran Khan and Ranveer Singh made their presence felt while Akshay Kumar shrugged away a couple of disappointments with a weekend 'dhamaka'.
Ajay Devgn
Golmaal 3 - Blockbuster
Raajneeti - Superhit
Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai - Hit
Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge - Semi Hit
Aakrosh - Flop
Toonpur Ka Superherro - Flop
If there is one actor who just didn't rest through 2010, it was Ajay Devgn. The actor went along at a relentless pace with one film practically every second month. Not many actors can boast of a good success rate when half a dozen films release in a single year but Ajay did enjoy it after all. Ok, so the biggest of his hits were multi starrers (Golmaal 3, Raajneeti, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai) but he enjoyed a solo success in Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge as well. Yes, there was disappointment in Aakrosh but it was clearly the case of law of averages turning itself on. Ajay played across different genres and excelled in drama, action as well as comic affairs, hence knocking the doors of Top-5 pretty strongly.
Salman Khan
Dabangg - Blockbuster
Veer - Flop
'Never underestimate this Khan' - That's an oft repeated statement made in reference to Salman Khan. When he delivered a flop in Veer [after two back to back flops last year as well in the form of London Dreams and Main Aurr Mrs Khanna], chips were seemingly down for Salman. However, once the promo of Dabangg hit the screens, it was declared by one and all that this movie won't go wrong at all. Some 'Munni' magic followed and along with 'Chulbul Pandey', the world danced to the tune of Dabangg. Result? A blockbuster success that is now the second biggest grosser ever in the history of Hindi cinema after 3 Idiots. If there is a man who has stayed in Top-5 for last 20 years, it is Salman Khan. -

My Name Is Khan - Hit
While Shah Rukh did make a guest appearance in the disastrous Dulha Mil Gaya, it doesn't quite get counted. SRK stayed true to his superstar status with one of 2010's first big hits My Name Is Khan. SRK played an autistic character which definitely is one of the toughest roles of his career. His performance was highly appreciated by audiences worldwide. Though the film was subject to controversy during its release, it went on to become a big hit thus allowing SRK to stamp his annual hit in year 2010.
Akshay Kumar
Housefull - Hit
Tees Maar Khan - Average
Khatta Meetha - Below average
Action Replayy - Flop
2010 was a crucial year for Akshay Kumar. After a lukewarm 2009, there was something big expected from Akshay and he got that in Housefull which turned out to be his biggest grosser ever till date and a clean hit. One expected his Khatta Meetha to build on his partnership with Priyadarshan further but the end result was lukewarm. With Action Replayy not even managing an opening, it was pretty much required that his Tees Maar Khan does well. The film opened on a very good note though it did eventually settled down for an average status. However, a terrific opening which was amongst the best of the best has given Akshay a reason to come up with a hearty laugh all over again as it has consolidated his superstar status all over again. -

Chance Pe Dance - Flop
It was an okay-dokay year for Shahid Kapoor as he didn't really enjoy the kind of success that he would have hoped for, especially after Kaminey last year. In fact this must well have been a record year for Shahid where out of four releases; three of them were those which were in the making of long. Still, except for Chance Pe Dance which was a flop, he didn't have to shed much tears as he managed to keep his head over water. What was remarkable was the fact that despite being in the making for years, Milenge Milenge as well as Paathshaala turned out to be a coverage affair. On the other hand Badmaash Company was a reasonable success that made him smile in a year that anyways hasn't seen many movies succeeding.
Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan
These are the Khans who have been delivering for a couple of decades now and are still going strong. However, none of them had any new releases to their name. Aamir Khan kept himself busy with his productions. On the other hand, Saif too was busy with his home production Agent Vinod where he is also the lead. When movies of these two men release next year, one can be rest assured that they would end up throwing a few names out of this list. Who would these men be? Well, let's meet again in end of 2011 and see it for ourselves.
