"Despite the fact that silicon is a material that comes closest to skin in terms of look and feel, we actually had hundreds of silicon pieces that were painted according to Auro's mood in the film. For example, if Auro was feeling well in the film, the colour of the skin would be dark. If he was unwell, all the silicon pieces were painted pale in colour," says Balki.

Mr. Amitabh Bachchan seconds the director, "These children go through a lot of physical changes - they lose their hair, their head becomes big, their face gets wrinkled. But their thinking is still that of a 12-year-old."
"The look is most important in Paa because we had to go through a lot of trail and error. The look was designed by a very famous make up artist from Hollywood Christian Kifle, who's won an Oscar for his previous work. The prosthetics take about 4-5 hours to put up and that was trying." -

Describing the scene in the make up room, Balki says, "In every make up session, we thinned Mr. Bachchan's mustache as much as we could, we tied up his hair and attached the mould and new skin pieces everyday. The process of putting on the make up would require 4&1/2 hours everyday, while taking it off would require 2 hours. More importantly, the make up had to be removed within 2 hours because it affects the skin."
