Best Music Video
Now-a-days a lot of emphasis is given to the way videos are shot and many times special videos are shot to promote certain songs and this year was no different. Our next category is for the 'Best Music Video of 2009'.
The nominations included the title tracks of Aa Dekhen Zara, Blue and Wake Up Sid - but in the end it is 'Dhan Te Nan' (Kaminey) standing atop the winners' podium. Though it had the characteristics of a typical hit music video missing, like sexy girls and brightly dressed extras, the viewers lapped up the experience of this video. With a dark tone and a mysterious feel to it, 'Dhan Te Nan' is this year's 'Best Music Video' according to you!
When Shahid Kapoor got the news, he said "Awesome! That's brilliant" and Ahmed Khan, the choreographer of the song said, "We really liked the song and Shahid said he doesn't want to dance in this one…so we just came up with one move and that's all we had… but it's the best song ever!"
Bosco-Caesar created the magic for the first runner up with the 'Aahun Aahun' track from Love Aaj Kal. Deepika and Saif looked super hot and at the same time Saif in his sardar avatar danced to typical bhangra steps right next to his twin!
The second runner up is 'Zoobie Doobie' (3 Idiots) with its 'Old Film Style' choreography and sets. Bosco-Caesar at it again! One could see polka-dotted umbrellas, Kareena in a wet saree and a beautiful white gown and very very simple steps in this innocent video of a super-hit film. -

The winner this year, hands down, is 'All Izz Well' (3 Idiots)
The director, Raju Hirani roped in Avit Dias, a dramatics / dance teacher from Don Bosco school in Mumbai, to choreograph the song.
Avit was ecstatic to win this award (since it's his first one in Bollywood) and said, "A big thank you to everyone out there who appreciated and acknowledged my work. This movie is a wonder - and the song is just a part of that wonder!" He said working with Aamir and the boys was just like working with the kids at school!
The first runner up in this category is 'Main Tera Dhadkan Teri' (Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani). Choreographer Ahmed Khan got his sets to look like a sports bar for this song complete with football clubs' posters and memorabilia!
And last but not the least, is the second runner up in this category and that is 'Masakali' (Delhi 6) which was choreographed by Vaibhavi Merchant. -

Best Lyricist
A song is composed and a song is sung. But sometimes the most important ingredient of the song is ignored. A song is also to be written! So in this category we salute the Lyricists who wrote fantastic songs in 2009.
The winner is a lyricist who has made a special place for himself in the music industry after Jab We Met. It's the one and only Irshad Kamil. He has written most of the songs for Ajab Prem ki Ghazab Kahani but has won your votes and the award for the heart-wrenching 'Tu Jaane Na'.
Bollywood Hungama spoke to him and he was thrilled to know that both his songs are in the Top 5. He thanked his fans and said that 'Tu Jaane Na' was a song very close to his heart and feels that that the song represents a situation that all of us have been through at least once in our lives. He also admitted that Pritam and he were more than sure that this song will work.
Mr.Taurani (MD-Tips) mentions that he admires Irshad Kamil's hard-work since they were never satisfied and he had to write and re-write the songs several times.
The first runner-up on the other hand is Swanand Kirkire for 'Behti Hawa Sa Tha Woh' (3 Idiots) - a song that haunts you for long after you have seen the film.
The second runner-up is Ashish Pandit, who wrote 'Tera Hone Laga Hoon' (Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani) -

The next category is the 'Best Playback Singer (Female)' and the winner is Alisha Chinoy for... 'Tera Hone Laga Hoon' (Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani) which is a Pritam composition again!
It seems that Pritam had tried 3-4 different voices for this song and then finally decided that Alisha will be singing it.
When contacted, Alisha said, "A beautiful song deserves a beautiful voice and I have given it my best. I want to thank Pritam for the beautiful song and all my fans all over for loving me…Love you!!"
Our first runner up is Kavita Seth who ruled your hearts with 'Iktara' (Wake Up Sid). Amit Trivedi (of Dev D fame) chose this lady to render the only song he composed for Wake Up Sid. Her sufiana-andaz was like a breath of fresh air.
When contacted, Kavita said it's a great feeling to be appreciated by listeners and she is grateful to them all for keeping this song so close to their hearts.
Following closely is our second runner up Shreya Ghoshal with 'Zoobie Doobie' (3 Idiots). Shreya had won the Best Playback Singer (Female) last year on the Bollywood Hungama Surfers' Choice Music Awards 2008 for her song 'Teri Ore'.
